Full-time New Lothrop, MI $22.00 - $24.52 / hour

Twin Township Ambulance is hiring a licensed Paramedic to respond to medical emergencies and deliver pre-hospital patient care in the New Lothrop, Michigan area. Requires a current State of Michigan Paramedic license, BLS and ACLS, and a valid Michigan driver’s license. Shifts of up to 24 hours, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Paramedics serve the community by responding to medical emergencies and delivering patient care, support, and evaluation in the pre-hospital setting. Paramedics work under the guidelines and protocols established by the Saginaw-Tuscola Medical Control Authority, Shiawassee County Medical Control, and Genesee County Medical Control, adhering to the rules and regulations set forth by MDHHS in the care and transportation of the sick and injured.

Reports to: Board of Directors and Operations Manager. FLSA: Non-Exempt. Employees supervised: None.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Always displays a courteous and professional attitude while at work.
  • Maintains a neat, clean, and professional appearance as established in the company dress code.
  • Responds to all emergency calls as assigned by the dispatcher, in accordance with company standards and in a safe manner.
  • Performs effectively under stressful and emotionally demanding situations.
  • Maintains personal and scene safety at all times, including awareness of infectious-disease precautions, hazardous-materials response, driver safety, body mechanics, and all other safety-related issues.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of all equipment carried on the unit.
  • Performs station and vehicle maintenance tasks, including cleaning and sanitation of assigned areas and equipment.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the Twin Township Ambulance geographical service area.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the Saginaw, Shiawassee, and Genesee County MCA protocols.
  • Completes all required daily rig checks, the station-duties checklist, and reports.
  • Works collaboratively with their partner, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas.
  • Attends and participates in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings held within the company unless excused by the Operations Manager.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality by following HIPAA laws.
  • Participates in continuing-education programs mandated by MDHHS to maintain a current license.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager, Assistant Operations Manager, Supervisors, and/or Field Training Officers.

Schedule and work hours

Paramedics are expected to work shifts of up to 24 hours in length. Schedules may include rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Employees must be prepared to sustain physical and cognitive performance throughout the duration of their shift.

Physical demands and working conditions

  • Makes sound, timely decisions in emergency situations upon dispatch.
  • Spends significant time outdoors, exposed to varying weather conditions.
  • Risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
  • Works for extended periods requiring sustained physical activity and intense concentration, including shifts of up to 24 hours.
  • Relies on sight, hearing, smell, and touch to assess emergencies and maintain personal safety.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds independently and 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Communicates clearly by talking and hearing in noisy environments.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must safely operate an emergency vehicle in all weather conditions, including rain and snow.

This position involves routine and frequent exposure to hazards that may include bright or dim lighting, dust, pollen, and airborne particles, extreme heat or cold, humid or wet conditions, extreme noise, vibrations, fumes or noxious odors, animals and wildlife, traffic and moving machinery, electrical hazards, heights, and bodily fluids. Employees receive training on respiratory protection, bloodborne pathogens, and hazmat awareness.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current State of Michigan Paramedic license.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license.
  • Acceptable driving record as defined by Twin Township Ambulance’s insurance carrier.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) card from the American Heart Association.
  • Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card from the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric and Trauma certification as defined by Medical Control (within 6 months).
  • ICS-100, ICS-200, NIMS-700, and NIMS-800 certifications (or obtained within 6 months).
  • No felony convictions.
